Comprehensive Waterfront Plan - Public Meetings

Community Input To Set Goals And Priorities

Comprehensive Waterfront Plan

The New York City Department of City Planning (DCP) has committed to extensive public involvement as they seek to identify the goals and issues to be addressed by the Plan. Vision 2020 was introduced at a kickoff meeting on April 8th (view the presentation here) where public comments were recorded. Borough-specific workshops were held to identify specific opportunities for each waterfront neighborhood.

At the workshops, DCP presented the findings of their assessment of resources of the borough's waterfront - what public access exists today, where there are industrial activities, natural areas, etc. The meetings then broke into small groups to discuss particular segments of the borough’s waterfront, what are refered to as Reaches. In these small group discussions DCP planners sat with attendees to better understand site-specific projects and priorities that each neighborhood wanted to discuss including suggestions for how people envision improving the waterfront.

In addition to the five borough workshops, two additional workshops focused on “the Blue Network” – issues that are not specific to any one borough but which affect the whole of the water, including waterborne transportation and recreation. These workshops also addressed the city’s strategy for increased climate resiliency. You can read recap notes for all the meetings on the DCP’s Public Comments web page.
