As-Salamu Alaykum

Just arrived in Abu Dhabi. The trip was pleasantly uneventful with room to stretch in half filled planes and stellar service even for us in economy courtesy of Lufthansa. Stark contrast with cattle car pay-for-everything US flying experience.

Two hours now in UAE shows me it is an immigrant filled very friendly country with nods and smiles from strangers.

Flew over lots of water but haven't seen much yet.  One strange thing was the route form Frankfurt to Abu Dhabi takes you over what used to be called "the no fly zone" in Iraq and then what was until very recently a war zone in cities like Baghdad Kirkuk and Basrah. From all reports the UAE is an island of stability in what is still a very turbulent region. City tour tomorrow. Conference the next day.
