Bay Ridge 69th Street Eco Dock
Although a physically challenging location, the 69th street pier in Bay Ridge was selected as a Community Eco Dock site due to overwhelming support from the local community and the unique opportunities available in the area. The dock operates as a ‘jack-of-all-trades”, able to accommodate both small human powered craft and historic, educational, and larger vessels, injecting a diversity of uses into the local waterfront. Anticipated programming includes educational waterfront excursions, special events, and introductory orientation for users new the water. 
The design of the dock is the result of a two year long community involvement process, which incorporated feedback from the hand-powered boating community and large vessel operators into the dock designed by Ocean & Coastal Consultants, a marine engineering and design firm. Numerous charettes, meetings, and site visits were conducted in order to ensure the design would be accessible to the widest possible range of vessels and uses.

The 69th street pier Community Eco Dock represents a new paradigm, envisioning the waterfront as a core element of community recreation, education and vitality. The Bay Ridge Eco Dock is scheduled to be opened by Summer 2012.
