New York Restoration Project’s annual Harlem River Festival takes place this Sun., Sep. 12 from noon to 5 p.m. at Swindler Cove Park, at the far east end of Dyckman Street where it intersects with Harlem River Drive.
Where:
Swindler Cove Park (Dyckman street and 10th Ave.)
Directions:
Take the 1 or A train to Dyckman Street. Walk East to the intersection of 10th Ave. & Dyckman Street
An all day event packed with fishing, seining for crustaceans, boating, music, barbeque picnic, and photo opportunities at the Peter J Sharp Boathouse, water slides, painting and decorating fish shaped cookies are just some of the fun and education activities designed to bring people to the water. Great for all ages! All activities are FREE! In addition to all listed events, Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance's boat 'Big G' will be available for 1/2 hour public tours.
Festival highlights include fishing and seining, boating in the harbor, live animals, cookie decorating, a surf simulator ride and educational programming. The cove will be turned into an interactive classroom, educating attendees of all ages about the creatures below the water’s surface and the ways to get an up-close look at their habitat. Additionally, attendees will enjoy festival music throughout the day and traditional barbeque fare will be available for a picnic lunch.
The event is free.
