A traditional Japanese floating lanterns ceremony commemorating the victims of the
WTC tragedy will take place on Thursday, September 11 at Pier 40 (south side) led by
Rev. T.K. Nakagaki of the New York Buddhist Church with the assistance of the
Interfaith Center of New York.

Each year people in Hiroshima, Japan, gather to float lanterns in remembrance of the
victims of the atomic bombings and all victims of war. This year, the HIBAKU (survived
the Atomic bombing in Hiroshima) piano will come to NY to commemorate the 65th
Anniversary of the Hiroshima/Nagasaki atomic bombings, carrying the message of
“World Peace.” The New York Buddhist Church continues this moving tradition for the
9th time on the Hudson River to honor the victims of 9/11. The event is FREE and
members of the public are invited come early to write loved ones’ names or a peace
message on a lantern.

This event is sponsored by the New York Buddhist Church in partnership with the
Interfaith Center of New York, co-sponsored by the New York Disaster Interfaith
Services, and supported by NY de Volunteers and the New York Kayak Company. It is
also supported by the Buddhist Council of New York, New York City Downtown
Boathouse and the LIC Community Boathouse.
