Description
Topic: TURNING NYS OVER TO OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY
Speaker: Anne Marie Garti
The natural gas industry wants to extract methane from most of NY State and few people are aware that this is about to happen. If allowed to proceed, this will drastically change our State.
Ms. Garti will give an overview of unconventional gas drilling, and how it might impact us. Natural gas is being promoted as a clean source of fuel, but is that bright blue flame an illusion?
Anne Marie Garti grew up next to the Delaware River in Delaware County and has lived in an apartment overlooking the Jerome Park Reservoir for twenty years.
She became a leader in the fight against the Croton Water Treatment Plant, chaired the Site/Technical Committee while the project was under environmental review, and was the catalyst for the formation of the Jerome Park Conservancy, which she has lead for many years.
She is a member of Gas Drilling Task Force of the Sierra Club, the NYS Gas Coordinating Group, Sustainable Otsego, and CDOG (Chenango Delaware Otsego Gas Drilling Opposition Group).
