Presentation: "A New Sea Scout Ship for Monmouth County"

Wednesday, February 25th, 7:15 pm

Monmouth Beach Cultural Center
128 Ocean Avenue
Monmouth Beach, New Jersey 07750

Navesink Maritime Heritage Association (NMHA)

Boy Scouts of America leaders,  Charles Spitz, Commodore of Sea Scouts,  and Alan Rowe, Monmouth County District Director of BSA,  will make a presentation on the Sea Scouts program.  NMHA will  introduce the new NMHA and BSA Sea Scouts program cooperation. This meeting will be of particular interest to parents, community leaders and educational organizations that are interested in low cost co-ed outdoor education and scouting programs.

The Sea Scouts program is the oldest of the BSA programs. The program is based on rank advancement and culminates in the Quartermaster rank which is recognized by the United States Coast Guard and is actually more challenging to achieve than the famous Boy Scout Eagle rank. Also Sea Scouting is a co-ed program, allowing both boys and girls to achieve Quartermaster rank.

The Sea Scouts activities and other NMHA summer programs will take place on the Navesink River estuary. A future Sea Scouts vessel will be berthed at Irwin's Marina in Red Bank. NMHA has access to a 15-acre island on the Navesink for River Rangers and Sea Scouts.

Refreshments will be served at 7:15, the membership meeting will take place at 7:30 pm and will be followed by this presentation promptly at 8:00 pm
